Hygge, pronounced hoo-guh – is one of the reasons Denmark has been ranked the happiest country in the world. It’s a conscious appreciation of a feeling or moment, a Danish take on mindfulness.
Hygge in winter means snuggling up in warm jumpers or curling up in your favourite chair with a fluffy throw around you. Binge on your favourite tv shows, meditate, spend time with friends, whatever it takes to truly relax and cosset yourself.
Candles are an important part of creating a hygge atmosphere, bringing a warmth to your room and heart, lighting dark corners with a mesmerising flame.
Not all candles are created equal.
Soy and paraffin (aka food grade wax) candles contain up to 200 chemicals, some of which can be carcinogenic. Soy candles are not 100% pure soy, no matter what the label says, as they have to be blended with a wax that will actually burn (soy wax won’t, by itself).
Burning beeswax candles is the only healthy choice. Beeswax is a 100% natural product. It’s organic and contains no chemicals or carcinogens. Beeswax is a by-product of honey, and it’s made by bees, not a scientist in a lab.
When you burn beeswax candles, you’re actually purifying the air. Air contains billions of electrically charged (both positive and negative) particles called ions. The ions in the air affect our mood, energy and health. Positive ions attract pollution and allergens and once bonded with, remain circulating in the air. Negative ions separate the pollution and allergens from the positive ions, thereafter allowing them to fall harmlessly to the ground.
When burnt, beeswax candles produce negative ions which help remove pollution and allergens from the air making it a cleaner and fresher environment for us all, particularly asthma and allergen sufferers.
Beeswax candles work in the same way as many air purifiers and filters by clearing the air of the dust, pollen and other suspended pollutants making the air clean and clear.
And beeswax candles burn up to 70% longer, burn brighter and burn cleaner than any other candle.
So on those wet winter days, when you feel like hibernating with a cup of tea and making your house cosy, light your world with beeswax candles, enhance the hygge and reap the benefits.
